60% of Women Will Have Hair Loss

Women’s air loss is a very complex issue and can be difficult to diagnose. Although it is a complex issue, there are just 2 types of hair loss for women: hereditary or non-hereditary. Identifying which type you have puts you on a more direct path to find solutions to minimize loss and keep a fuller head of hair.

Hereditary Hair Loss Test

Analyzes your DNA based on your genetic hair loss markers.

Women Experience 2 Types of Hair Loss

hereditary hair loss

This type of hair loss, also known as Androgenetic Alopecia (AGA) is a result of genetically determined alterations of the natural hair growth cycle. AGA causes the shortening of the anagen “growth phase” and the lengthening of the time between when the hair sheds and new growth begins. With AGA, the hair takes longer to grow back after shedding. The hair follicle also undergoes miniaturization, where it shrinks and produces a shorter, thinner hair shaft. You can inherit this gene from either your mother or father. AGA is a progressive condition and early detection can help minimize thinning and loss.

NON-HEREDITARY HAIR LOSS

This type of hair loss is due to either a medical condition such as an auto-immune disorder or thyroid issue, or due to Telogen Effluvium, which is a temporary condition with excessive hair shedding. Telogen Effluvium is triggered by a stressful event that causes a shift in the natural hair growth cycle, sending an influx of hair into telogen (shedding) phase. Common triggers stress, having a baby, diet, hormonal shifts or traumatic life event. Most often hair will resume it’s natural growth cycle in time.

What Is a Genetic Hair Loss Test?

A genetic hair loss test is a tool used to help determine if you carry the gene that makes you predisposed to hair loss. It is a DNA test that looks for specific markers that point to the likelihood of pattern hair loss – commonly known as hereditary hair loss or Androgenetic Alopecia.

What is Genetic Predisposition?

Genetic predisposition means one's genes or DNA makes them susceptible to a certain condition that is passed down in their inherited genetic make up.
